James Robert Lucas, age 28, died Sunday (August 11, 2013).
A funeral service is planned for 4:00 pm on Wednesday (August 14, 2013) at First Presbyterian Church in Carthage with the Rev. Rick Martindale officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
A native of Moore County he was the son of Jimmie Ray Lucas and the late Carolyn Ann Dowd Lucas. He graduated from Appalachian State and was a history and war enthusiast. He enjoyed NASCAR and was an avid Mark Martin fan. He was a true animal lover and also enjoyed cooking for his family. He had just returned from North Dakota after working there for a year. He was anxious to broaden his travels. James Robert was a kind and gentle soul who loved his family and friends dearly.
In addition to his father, he is survived by step-mother, Carol Lucas; sisters, Anne Lucas, Meredith Marshburn & husband, Andy and Sarah Fann & husband, Mike all of West End, and Nancy McLendon of Apex and Caroline Lucas of Cary; three nieces, Connor Lucas, MacKenzie Smith and Harper Fann and one nephew, Reid Marshburn.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 PM at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home.

  22. I worked with James here at the YMCA. We would talk NASCAR from time to time and who’s driver was a better driver. He was very kind and soft spoken. He was dearly missed when he left the facility and if there is anything that we can do, please let us know
