James Thomas Hussey

james hussey

Family and friends it is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved patriarch, James Thomas Hussey, on Friday, September 29, 2023. He was blessed to be home with the comfort of his family and surrounded by the people and things that he cherished.

He spent 87 years here with us and all of them were in service to God, his family and his community. After retiring as Vice President of Tarheel Paving Company in 1987, he went to work for the City of High Point where he retired as the supervisor of Ingleside Compost Facility.

Retirement didn’t suit him. So he decided to go back to college to study art and writing. There was really nothing he didn’t do well and with complete dedication and determination.

He was a master genealogist and loved studying, documenting and sharing his lineage with any and everyone who showed an interest. He was driven and competitive which led him to participate in bowling leagues and the Senior Olympics of High Point where he would humbly, “clean house”, with every game. His quiet voice and humble nature led him to be loved and respected by everyone that was blessed to know him.

He served God first in all he did and always found his way to a leadership role as a teacher and proud servant of God. He was a master teacher and sage of wisdom. He was the most forgiving man you will ever meet.

Please take a moment of reflection to celebrate his life here on Earth and to rejoice with us for his family reunion which we are sure include his very own pan of Cora’s persimmon pudding and a competitive game of horseshoes with his brothers Johnny and Jerry.

James is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jane Hussey and father Oscar Billy Hussey (Ossie) as well as his sisters: Rachel, Blanche, Cora and his brothers, Johnny and Jerry.

He is survived by sisters, Estelle, Grace and Louvene, his best girl, Kathie, and his first wife, Annette, and mother of his 3 children, Pamela and husband Dennis, Brian,  Mindy and husband, Travis; grandchildren:, James, Ben, Nick, Jessica, Cash; 14 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grand-children (all of whom he made sure were wrapped in the loving comfort of a hand-made, “sisters” quilt; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral Services will be at 3:00 pm Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Smyrna  Church, with Reverend Farrell Hussey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2:00 PM.

Kennedy Funeral Home is serving the Hussey family.
