James W. Taylor, 74, of Carthage, passed away Jan. 11, 2011 at his home, surrounded by loved ones.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday at Red Branch Baptist Church conducted by Pastor Scott McInnis. Burial with full military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Taylor was a retired Army veteran of 20 years, having reached the rank of CW3. He was a Black Hat at Ft. Benning before going on to become a Cobra pilot, serving four tours in Vietnam. He also retired from the NC Department of Corrections.
As a member of Red Branch Baptist Church, he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. He was a devoted Christian who loved and witnessed for the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jobe and Blanche Taylor; brothers, Jobe Taylor Jr. and Ray Taylor, Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Robbie; daughters, Beverly Nall and husband Steve, Martha Campbell and husband Danny; grandchildren, Amie Patterson and husband Mark, Kevin Nall and wife Karen, Raven Caddell and husband Trey, Stetson Nall, Leigh-Anne Campbell, Candace Campbell, Kelly Campbell; great-grandchildren, Gavin Patterson, Jasmine Nall, Haven Patterson, Savannah Nall, Taylor Caddell, and Kylie Campbell; a sister, Pauline Fields; brothers, Arles Taylor and wife, Bradie, Billy Taylor and wife, Annette; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Taylor; extended grandchildren, Cassie Maines, Virginia Priest, and Tyler Salyer.
The family will receive friends at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home on Friday from 6:00 - 8:00 PM and other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Red Branch Baptist Church Missions, 1748 Old River Road Carthage, NC 28327.
