Jerry Wayne Upchurch, 82, of Asheboro passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, January 28th, 2021 surrounded by his family. Jerry was born on November 15, 1938 to W. N. “Jack” and Evelyn Upchurch and was raised in High Falls, NC.

 

Jerry was the proud owner and operator of Hillside Barber Shop for 58 years.  When he wasn’t at the barbershop, you could find him on the golf course chasing a ball around the greens.  He was a member of the Randolph Squares Dancing Club.  He was an avid walker, loved to travel and always loved a good ball game.

 

Jerry was a father, husband, and a devoted Duke fan.  He is survived by his wife Margaret, his son Wayne, step-children Lora Smith (David), Keith Wilson (Brooke), Bradley Wilson, 8 step-grandchildren (1 step-grandson, Colby, of the home) and 5 step-great grandchildren. Jerry was one of eight children and is survived by his brothers Darrell, Jackie, Tommy (Doris), Freddie (Neva), and sisters Delores Brady (Joe), Pat Cole (Larry), Connie Sessoms (Robert) and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by the mother of his son, Twila Allen Upchurch.

 

The public may pay their respects on Monday, February 1, 2021 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at Kennedy Funeral Home in Robbins.

 

A funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, February 2, 2021, 1:00 at Acorn Ridge Baptist Church in Robbins. Burial will follow the service at High Falls Methodist Church in Highfalls, where he was a member.

  9. Judy and I were very saddened to learn of Jerry’s death. Condolences to Margaret, Wayne, his brothers and sisters, and all of the other family members. May you be blessed and comforted by God.

  10. I’ll always remember the fun times we had at Randolph Squares on Friday nights! Jerry was the jokester in our group.
    He loved to cut up and have fun! We’ll miss you Jerry but I know you’re in a better place! Love and prayers to Margaret, Wayne, and all the family.

  12. I didn’t know Jerry personally but he was a friend of my late husband. He cut Eddie’s hair for the entire time Jerry was at Hillside. My thoughts and prayers to the family.

  14. Margaret I am so sorry about Jerry’s passing. He was a great friend and my barber for some 40 plus years and we would always give the Tar Heels a hard time as he loved Duke and I loved Wake Forest. I had hoped we would get in a round of golf after his retirement but it never happened. I have tracked down one of his barber partners “Jim” and he’s cutting my hair. Carrie and I have your family in our prayers . RIP Jerry

  23. My heart goes out to Jerry’s family in the loss of such a good husband, dad, and Paw,Paw. He will be missed by all who knew him.
    Tommy and I met Jerry while square dancing. We had so much fun hearing some of his stories and having a good laugh. We will always be happy for the time we spent with him and Margaret.
    The good in this, is Jerry is pain free and in a better place.
