Jo Ellen Yates, 84, died peacefully at Penick Village, April 9, 2018.

A memorial service is planned for April 13, 2018 at First Baptist Church, Southern Pines, NC officiated by the Reverend David Helms at 2:00 pm.

A long time resident of Pinehurst, NC, she enjoyed reading, puzzles, and was devoted to her husband and family.  She especially enjoyed spending time with grandchildren on summer vacations at the Outer Banks.

Born in Bogalusa, Louisiana, she graduated from Slidell High School class of 1951 (Valedictorian) and graduated Louisiana State University. 

Predeceased by her parents Everiste Levy and Velma Levy Pravata, her husband Elton G. Yates, sister Carol Ann Darby and granddaughter Megan E. Dibble.

She is survived by her son Steven E. Yates (Helene) of Old Saybrook, Connecticut, daughters Michele Pendley  (Jerry) of Carthage, NC and Sherlyn Dibble (Kenneth) of Richmond VA.  Four grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

  5. I am so saddened to hear of Jo Ellen’s passing. My Mom, Ruth, was also at Penick Village and they became friends because of their love of chocolate! – Mom would visit Jo Ellen at least once a day with a small stash of Hershey bars and brighten her day. Sa
