John Tom “J.T.” Fields, age 87 (Sarah’s Redneck) of Carthage went to his eternal home on August 11, 2019 at FirstHealth Hospice House.

Funeral service will be 2:30 PM, Thursday, August, 15, 2019 at Cool Springs United Methodist Church, with the Reverend William Cashion officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state beginning at 2:00 PM.

A native of Moore County, he was the son of the late Tom Tyson Fields and Loma Mae Matthews Fields.  He was a lineman/electrician all his life. He retired from Becker Electric Company, Alexandria, Virginia in October 1992 to return home to be closer to his family and to re-establish his boyhood connections with Cool Springs United Methodist Church.  He was an avid fan of the music of Hank Williams, Sr. He loved socializing with people he grew up with in the community and enjoyed spending time tinkering with his own tractors, lawnmowers and cars. He loved his Lord, his family and his church family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John Tom “Skippy” Fields, Jr.; ex-wife, Callie Lee Welch Coggins; a niece, Vickie Lee Edwards; a son-in-law, Michael Wayne Dupree and a brother, Burgwyn Tyson “B.T.” Fields.

Survivors include Sarah Jane Weatherwax Fields, his wife of 37 years; daughters and sons-in-law, Jesse Wayne & Patricia Ann Mashburn of Carthage, Barbara Jean Dupree of West End, Linda Gail Pegg of Carthage, Jay and Jeannie Mae Jeffries of Sanford and Marc and Debbie Lee Hayner of Beckley, WV; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Phillips Fields of Carthage; a nephew, Tony Tyson Fields of Carthage; 9 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson and a host of family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM, Wednesday, August 14,20049 at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
