Johnsie Elliott Phillips, age 93, of Glendon died Sunday, October 27, 2024 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill after a brief illness.

A native of Moore County, she was the daughter of the late Irva C. Elliott and Viola Dennis Elliott. Johnsie was a lifelong member of Cool Springs United Methodist Church and retired from Quality Mills in Carthage where she was a seamstress for over 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Douglas Phillips; her daughter Barbara Diver and son in law Jerry Maddox.

She is survived by her children Rebecca Maddox of Sanford, David Phillips and wife Teresa of Glendon, Cheryl Purvis and husband Mark of Bennett, Mark Phillips of Glendon; brother Raymond Elliott and wife Kay of Robbins; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2024 at Cool Spring Church conducted by Rev. William Cashion. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home and other times at the home.

  3. I saw Johnsie eating at Pete’s not all that long ago. I was so glad to see her & chat just a few minutes. I’m sorry now I didn’t stay longer but didn’t want to interrupt her eating. There just aren’t many left now that I remember from growing up; and now another gone. But just think how our old neighborhood is getting rebuilt person-by-person in Heaven. And boy did they get an important piece this time! And when our turn comes it really will be just going home. You’ll all be in my thoughts and prayers.
