Joyce  Murphy Nelson, 89, died Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Pinelake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Carthage, NC. 

 

Joyce was a loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother.  In fact, she was affectionately known to most everyone as “Granny”. Joyce was very proud of her family and time spent with them was most precious, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She enjoyed caring for her home and garden, growing vegetables and flowers.  Joyce was a wonderful cook, remembered for her chicken and dumplings, sausage gravy and potato salad, just to name a few. She was fond of crocheting beautiful gifts for friends and family.

 

Joyce was a daughter of the late Pete and Doxie Davis Murphy and was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Dewitt Lee Nelson; sons: Dewitt Nelson, Jr., Dale Nelson, Ricky Nelson;  son in law: Kenneth Lambert.

 

Joyce is survived by children: Keith Nelson and wife Vanlene, Randy Nelson and wife Elizabeth, Cindy Lambert, Chad Nelson and wife Audrey;18 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and friends. 

 

Graveside service will be 1:00 PM, Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at Bethesda Cemetery, Aberdeen, NC.

 

The body will lie in state from 5:00 until 8:00 PM, Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at Kennedy Funeral Home.
