Judy Carolyn Phillips

January 14, 1944 ~ June 9, 2024
Judy Garner Phillips, 80, entered Heaven peacefully on Sunday, June 9, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 13, 2024 at Acorn Ridge Baptist Church with Dr. John Williamson, Reverend Edwin Moore and Reverend Arnold Comer officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 9:30 AM.
The body will lie in state from 3:00 to 6 PM on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at Kennedy Funeral Home.
Born on January 14, 1944 to Earl H. Garner and Vila Spivey Garner, she spent most of her life in Moore County. Judy loved education and was the valedictorian of her high school class. She graduated from Campbell College in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree.
She began her teaching career in Asheboro city schools before returning to the Moore County school system. Judy taught 5th and 6th grade at Elise Middle school for 30 years.
One of her greatest blessings was meeting, and marrying, the love of her life, Charles Phillips. They built a wonderful life together and would have celebrated 55 years of marriage on June 28th. God blessed them with a son, Alan, and later a daughter-in-law, Susan. They were later blessed with two granddaughters, Addison and Campbell, who were the loves of their life. Judy is also survived by her sister and best friend, Brenda Pickler, husband Craig, and her niece Lindsay Greer, husband Chris, and great-nephew Anderson.
After retirement, Judy worked a range of part-time jobs around the community and especially enjoyed working with the Moore County Board of Elections.
Judy was a faithful member of Acorn Ridge Baptist Church, serving the congregation in a range of roles.
She enjoyed reading, cooking and traveling with Charles.
During her cancer experience her faith never wavered and she fought her battle with courage and strength. The family extends a special thanks to Dr. Michael Daley, FirstHealth Cancer Center, FirstHealth Hospice, and Interim Healthcare. A very special thanks to our hospice nurse Lawanda and caregiver Regina.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to the FirstHealth Hospice Foundation at 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst.
Kennedy Funeral Home is serving the Phillips family.

My prayers are with you during your time of loss of Judy. Enjoyed working with her at the Board of Elections during early vote, but had known her for years while teaching at Elise. We would run into her and Charles at Little Village Resturant in Robbins also and have conversations. She was so kind and just had a special and classy presence about her. I am glad to know we will see her again and she won’t be in pain.
My deepest sympathies to all the family.I know she will be missed greatly. She was a special lady always friendly and with a smile when I saw her.Prayers for you all.
Mrs. Phillips was such an amazing teacher. She was always so kind and nurturing to all of her students. Much love to her family. 🤍
The passing of a parent is never easy, yourself as a parent understands how she loved you, because that’s how you love your children. Knowing that she isn’t in pain anymore and that she is in the presence of her savior eases the pain some but not all the way and knowing you will see her again also helps. While i never had the pleasure of meeting your mom i do know this about her, she raised a fine young man who loves his family and church. Me and Norma are praying for your dad and you and your family for peace and comfort during this difficult time.
Charles, Alan , Brenda and family,
Kim and I are grieved for you all in your loss of Mrs. Phillips. A great teacher, friend and caring lady. I will always cherish her words of support and encouragement. Truly a great person who will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May God cradle you all in His loving arms in your grief and in the days to come. We love you.
