Karen was a kind and caring person, a loving sister, wife and aunt.  She served the children of Moore County for 30 years as a teacher and mentor to so many. She loved the Lord and her church, where she was pianist, Sunday School teacher and  lived as an example in grace, loving others.  Karen loved her family and spending time with them was most important. Those times included many trips to the beach camping, with her dogs. She will be greatly missed, but was reunited with her husband and partner, who preceded her in death, Tim Chalflinch.   Karen was a daughter of the late Dewitt and Sylvia Horner Purvis.

Karen is survived by her sisters: Sharon Oakes and husband Billy, Geraldine Boyd and husband Billy; sister in law: Linda Daggerhart and husband Phillip; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Kennedy Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
