Knud C. Kornberg, age 95, of Pinehurst died Thursday (March 31, 2016) at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

 

A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Thursday at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Southern Pines. Following the service the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall.

 

Born in Denmark to the late Peder and Ulla Hansen he was a master carpenter by trade.

 

Knud was an avid Bridge player, winning often. He also enjoyed traveling and golf. He was a very loving and caring person who always had an interesting story to tell.  He also loved children and would make them dollar bill bow ties or show them how to blow the paper off a straw at others.

 

He was preceded in death by: his wife Dorothy Kornberg and his sister Vita Margrethe Jessen .

 

He is survived by: a sister Greta Kornberg; a nephew John Jessen and wife Ettie; great niece Ulla Kornberg Jessen; great nephew Frederick Jessen; great-great niece Nadja Kornberg Hovmand; great-great nephew Otto Kornberg Jessen all of Denmark; his girlfriend Shirley Lundmark and family; his nurse and friend Chavonia Dunlap-Blue and family,  his housekeeper and friend Darlene Smith and a special local family whom he bonded very closely with, the Dennis Parks family of Carthage.

 

The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, and staff of the 3rd floor ICU Robins unit for all of their compassion, love, and care for Knud and his family.

 

Memorials may be made to the Our Savior Lutheran Church, youth ministry, 1517 Luther Way, Southern Pines, NC 28387 in honor of his love for children and his wife’s love and dedication to teaching.
