Kurby Joe Burgess, age 70, died Friday, January 24, 2014 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Monday, january 27, 2014 at Bible Tabernacle Church, Whispering Pines, where he was a member, conducted by the Reverend Phil Enlow and the Reverend Edwin Moore. Burial will follow at Pine Rest Cemetery in Robbins.
A native of Moore County. Kurby served in the National Guard and retired from Ingersoll Rand Inc. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, hunting, fishing and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his mother Elizabeth Lambert Burgess; brother: Kenneth Burgess; sisters: Fauline Burgess McDonald, Gladys 'Dolly' Burgess and Margie Burgess Davis.
Kurby is survived by his wife, Bertha Smith Burgess, of the home; daughters: Karen Burgess Shearer (Mitch), of Asheboro, Patricia Smith Parsons (Bryan), of Garner; sons: R L Smith (Jill), of Thomasville, Wesley Smith (Janet), of Robbins; brothers: Kermit Burgess, Kelly Burgess; sisters: Charity Burgess Comer, Malinda Burgess Hussey, Martha Burgess Nichols; Beloved Grandchildren: Preston Shearer, Natalie Smith, Sarah Smith, Nicholas Smith, Richard Smith; close friend Pablo Rivera and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Kennedy Funeral Home from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Sunday, January 26, 2014 and other times at the home.
