Laverne “Blue” McCaskill, 86, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.

Born on May 5, 1938, in Moore County, he was a son of the late Daniel and Sara Blue McCaskill.

Blue graduated from Farm Life School and went on to serve for 4 years in the United States Navy. After getting out of the service, he started working in the flooring business and had been hard at it for almost 50 years. He has owned and operated Aberdeen Carpet since 1989. Blue was a lifetime member of Eureka Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, beekeeping, traveling, and cookouts with the family. He also served as the president for Sept of the Blue for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Sylvia Sue McCaskill; brothers: Lee and Ralph McCaskill, as well as his sister: Margaret Fennell.

Blue is survived by his 3 children: Richard McCaskill and wife Patricia, Mitchell McCaskill and wife Tracy, Jane Horney and husband Philip; grandchildren: Matthew, Crystal, Michelle, James, Emily, Maggie, Meghan, Savannah, Mason, Caroline, Bryson; numerous great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 11 am at Eureka Presbyterian Church in Carthage with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 6-8 pm at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home in Carthage and other times at the home of Blue McCaskill.

Memorial contributions may be offered to FirstHealth Hospice Foundation, 150 Applecross Rd, Pinehurst, NC 28374 and Eureka Presbyterian Church, 2155 Farm Life School Road, Carthage, NC 28327.
