Lewis “Lew” T. Ferguson, age 63, of Pinehurst, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his family. 

Born in Taylorsville, NC he was a son of Lewis Mouchet and Patti Jean Gwaltney Ferguson. 

Lew went to Brevard College to play golf and to obtain his associates degree. He then transferred to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to earn his bachelor’s degree in Recreation Administration. Lew worked as the Head Golf Professional and Golf Operations Manager at Pinehurst Country Club for 18 years. He was a member of the PGA for over 40 years. He had a passion for cooking, a deep love for the Tarheels and would jam out to the Rolling Stones with a mean shimmy.

He was preceded in death by his father: Lewis Mouchet Ferguson. 

Lew is survived by his two children: Taylor Ferguson and wife Jenn of Charlotte, Emma Ferguson of Raleigh; mother: Patti Jean Ferguson of Taylorsville; siblings: Anna Ferguson and husband Joe of Davidson, Eric Ferguson and wife Pamela of Charlotte, Tricia Derrick and husband Drew of Boone; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. 

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022 from 2-5 PM at the Pine Crest Inn in Pinehurst.

    • I was sorry to learn of the passing of Lew. As a fellow PGA Professional from Connecticut, he always welcomed us and was the consummate professional during our visits to Pinehurst. Condolences to the family and may he rest in peace.
