Lila Mae Kemp Miller, 89 passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Kingswood Nursing Center in Aberdeen, NC.
A Memorial Service is planned for Friday, January 21, 2011 at 2 PM at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Southern Pines with a reception following the service.
Born in Minneapolis, MN she was the daughter of late Henry Louis and Wilhelmina Smith Kemp. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Harry A. Miller, two sisters, Fern C. Peters and Marlys Olson.
Mrs. Miller was one of the first women trained in Air Craft Communications in the early 1940's. During WWII she staffed an Interstate Airway Communication Station providing weather, flight data, instructions to pilots and then worked for the National Weather Service. She was employed with the Maryland School System for many years in Prince George's County before retiring and moving to Whispering Pines, then taught porcelain doll making at Sandhills Community College for several years.
She is survived by a daughter, Catherine L. Miller of Whispering Pines, and a son, Robert A. Miller of Greensboro and wife, Teresa Keiger.
