Mrs. Linda Hall Johnson, age 77, died September 10, 2019, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Wilmington, NC.

A native of Durham, Linda Darlene was the middle daughter of the late Lt. Col. Walter Worth and Rosa Thompson Hall. She was a graduate of Northern High School and James Sprunt Community College. She was employed by the Moore County Department of Social Services and US Civil Service at Camp Lejeune and New River Air Station. She served with Ed as he pastored churches in Jacksonville, Kenansville, Carthage, Fairmont and Durham, NC, King William and Charles City, VA, and Dallas, PA.

As Assistant Comptroller at US Marine Corps Air Station-New River, she was the author of the first developmental budget for the Osprey for the USMC. Linda served her community as a Sunday School teacher, leading Girls In Action, countless summers directing or teaching Vacation Bible School, and accomplished in music, singing alto in her church choirs and many ensembles. Her community service continued as a Den Mother for both Cub Scouts and Webelos, Vice President of Band Boosters and member of Athletic Boosters for White Oak High School (Jacksonville, NC). Linda continued her involvement as a member of Band Boosters for James Kenan High School (Warsaw, NC). All the while, Linda served her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in all she did and in her actions toward everyone she met.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday at Grey Stone Baptist Church in Durham conducted by her son, Rev. John W. Johnson, accompanied by Rev. Clay Waters and Rev. Ernest Ferrell. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Durham, NC.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Gail Wiley, and son, John Worth Johnson.

Linda is survived by her husband, The Rev. Ernest L. Johnson, Jr.; daughter, Patricia J. Morton and husband, Steven, of Wilmington, NC; sons, Rev. John W. Johnson and wife, Anita, of Concord, NC, Ernest L. “Eddie” Johnson, III, and wife, Sita, of Durham, NC; sister, Sandy Harding and husband, Ray, of Ormond Beach, FL; grandchildren, Holli Johnson, Jack Johnson, Anjali Johnson, Hannah and Katie Johnson, and Walt and Becca Morton; great-grandchildren Olivian Grace Erskine and Madison Quinn Erskine as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Grey Stone Baptist Church.
