Linda Elliott Wackerman, age 64 of Carthage died Monday at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church conducted by Monsignor Jeffery Ingham. Burial will follow in the Catholic Cemetery on Camp Easter Road.
Linda was born in Lee County to the late James W. Elliott, Jr. and Cloyce Bennett Elliott. She was part of the last graduating class of Cameron High School and was a 1968 graduate of ECU. Linda and her husband Charles lived in Baltimore County, MD for 30 years where she worked in the school systems for a number of years and taught special education. While there she was very active in her community. She served as president of the Chadwick Manor Community Association. In her college days, Linda was an avid Star Trek (Trekky) fan. After retiring, Linda and her husband Charles moved back to North Carolina to be closer to family and enjoy the slower pace of country living. Linda has always been a great lover of animals and owned several Chihuahuas and a cat.
Surviving are her husband Charles Wackerman; son Chuck Wackerman of Carthage; sisters Margaret Harper and husband Larry of Carthage, Sharon Arnold and husband, Bob of Sanford, Florida; step-sisters, Deborah Johnson and husband, Bo of Lake Norman; Betsy Davis and husband, Rolly of Seagrove; Gwyn Fuller and husband, Rusty of Ft. Mills, SC; Deana Mode and husband, C. M. of Shelby; step-brother Robert D. Wallace, Jr. and wife Margie of Robbins; step-mother Betty H. Elliott of Carthage; sister-in-law, Jane Marty; aunt Mae Elliott Rogers; nieces and nephews Michael Idyle, Michael Patterson, Sherry Bialkowski, Bobby Arnold.
There will be a prayer service at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home on Thursday at 6:00 PM followed by visitation until 8:00. The family will receive friends at other times at the residence of Margaret and Larry Harper.
