Louis C. Bower, Jr., age 77, of Carthage and formerly of NY died Tuesday (October 5, 2010) at his residence with his family by his side.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday at the Carthage United Methodist church conducted by the Rev. Chuck Plowman. Burial will follow with military honors at Cross Hill cemetery.
He was a US Army veteran of the Korean war and a member of the VFW. A very active member of the Carthage United Methodist Church, he was currently serving as president of the Carthage United Methodist Men. He volunteered with the Carthage and Highfalls UMC food pantries and was part of the UMC Manna cook team.
He was active in scouting where he served as a Cub Scout leader, scouting district commissioner and vigil member of the Order of the Arrow. He was an assistant with the 4-H State Shooting Sport Tournaments. He loved NASCAR and racing with his brother-in-law Herbie, and was a proud owner of a John Deere tractor.
Survived by his beloved wife of nearly 55 years, Carrie Green Bower; two sons, Louis Bower, III & wife, Diane of New York and Michael Bower of Raeford; two daughters, Christine McCullough & husband, Scott of Carthage and Cherie Stonecipher & husband, George of Carthage; a sister, Jane Smith of Wisconsin; a brother, Ronald Bower, Sr. of Elmira, NY; 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; and his special dog Curley.
The family will receive friends at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home on Friday from 6:00 - 8:00 PM and other times at the residence.
