M. Louise Seawell, age 87 of Carthage died Saturday (October 9, 2010) at her residence.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday at Cross Hill Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Tom Herndon. The family will receive friends at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home prior to the service from 1:00 - 1:30 PM.
A native of Moore County she was a daughter of the late Robert Mitchell and Bonnie Mae Lassiter Seawell. She lived and worked in Charlotte for 34 years with the Internal Revenue Service as a tax auditor. After retiring she became a caretaker for her mother.
She was preceded in death by: a brother Robert Lassiter Seawell; sisters Mitchell Mae Seawell Cannon and husband Dugid, Marjorie Anderson Sewell, Bonnie Maurine Seawell.
In 1979 after the death of her mother she returned to Carthage where she became very active in genealogy. She researched her family's history back many generations and traveled many places to do so. She began the Friendship Baptist Church (parent church to First Baptist Church and Bethlehem Baptist Church) cemetery fund and helped with the identification of many unmarked graves. She was a member of the Alfred Moore Chapter of D.A.R. and the Moore County Genealogical Society.
She is survived by: her sister Jean Seawell Rankin of Greensboro; nephews James Edwin Rankin, Stephen Mitchell Rankin and John Alan Rankin; several great nephews and nieces.
