Mary Ellen Proffitt Myers passed away Monday, June 18, 2018, at her home, surrounded by family.

Memorial services will be at 12:15 PM on Sunday, June 24, 2018, at Yates Thagard Baptist Church in Carthage, NC. The family will receive friends following the service.

Mary Ellen was a native of Virginia, born July 16,1929. She was a homemaker who loved her family, nature, music, and keeping contact with friends. Mary Ellen was also a teacher in the public schools for a few years, and at church for many years. For 35 years she and her husband attended and served at Elm City Missionary Baptist Church in Elm City, NC, before relocating to Moore county in 2003. She was known for sending greeting cards far and wide, and she and her husband delivered Meals on Wheels for several years.

Mary Ellen was a daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson and Grace Beard Proffitt, and was preceded in death by her sister, Mildred Hix;  brother, Tom Proffitt, Jr.

Mary Ellen is survived by her husband, William Myers, to whom she was married for nearly 64 years; as well as sons: David Myers and wife Ruth; Jeff Myers and wife Sheila; daughters: Jeanie McDaniel and husband David;  Nancy Wall and husband Tommy; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Jane Ayers; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Yates Thagard Baptist Church, 3820 Vass-Carthage Road, Carthage, NC 28327.
