Mary Ruth Seawell Wood, age 70 of Robbins died Monday (January 11, 2009) at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
She was born on April 14, 1939, in Moore County to the late William and Ocia Williams Seawell. She attended Robbins schools and graduated with the Elise High School Class of 1957. She then graduated from Bryce Commercial College in High Point.
Mary had a long and distinguished career with Bank of America, becoming an officer and working in human resources. Following her retirement, she moved to Southport where she volunteered with the community garden club. Mary had a wonderful green thumb, ? and enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. In 2001 she moved back to Robbins to be closer to her family and fiends. Because she wanted to make a difference she was elected to the Robbins Town Board, where she served faithfully until her health problems forced her to retire.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Marcus E. Wood. She is survived by: a daughter Alison Sipes and husband Robert of Raleigh; a grandson Zachary Sipes of Raleigh; two sisters Emily Davis and husband Harold of Eagle Springs, Linda Laton of Raleigh; two nephews Eric Laton and wife Susan of Acworth, GA, and Neil Laton and his wife Janna of Raleigh. Her great niece Madison Laton and great nephew Seth Laton will miss their beloved Aunt Mary.
