Mary Worthy Myrick McKenzie, age 85, died on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2024, in Pinehurst.
Born in Moore County, Mary was the daughter, of the late, Newton Roscoe Myrick and Bernice Mary Blue. She graduated from Carthage High School and later obtained her secretarial degree from Asheboro Business College. Afterward, she owned and operated her own business; Kiddie Korner a children’s clothing store, and as a bank teller for PNC Bank.
Mary loved her family. She enjoyed gardening, pottery, traveling the U.S., and taking cruises with Tommy.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Tommy McKenzie, and brothers: Randy and Jim Myrick.
She is survived by her sister, Nancy Owens of Whispering Pines; daughters: Tammy McKenzie Harward and husband Wes of Asheville, Robin McKenzie Briggs and husband Gary of Vass; son: Chris McKenzie and wife Allison of Southern Pines; grandchildren: Kyle Harward (Meredith) of Greensville, SC, Hannah Harward Sisk (Landen) of Lexington, KY, Gavin Briggs, Avery McKenzie and Kendall McKenzie; many other family members and friends.
The family would like to offer their tremendous thanks to the following Fox Hollow Memory Care staff: Melinda, Maia, Sheila, and Kim, for their unwavering care and kindness for their mom.
A memorial service will be held at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at 3 p.m.; 402 Saunders Street, Carthage, North Carolina. The service will be officiated by Pastor BeBe Briggs.

Worthy was one of the most wonderful ladies it was my privilege to know. We are all better for having her in our lives. Prayers for the family.

Mrs.Worthy, was a true Southern lady and a pillar of the Baptist church. She was always smiling, kind and pleasant to everyone. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. Heidi Livengood Chalflinch
