Melvin Green Purvis, age 83, of Carthage, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. 

Born on October 5, 1940, in Moore County, he was a son to the late Norman Green and Bonnie Phillips Purvis. 

Melvin graduated from Carthage High School in 1958. He received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Atlantic Christian College. He was a corporate officer at N.G. Purvis Farms Inc. Melvin was a member of Acorn Ridge Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, traveling the world, cheering on the Atlanta Braves and spending time with his family, who he loved dearly. 

Melvin is survived by his wife of 57 years: Judith Essary Purvis; two daughters: Carolyn Lambert and husband Kelly, Anna Moore and husband Tony; grandchildren: Bryson Lambert and fiancé Ashlee Matthews, Grayson Moore, Bonnie Paige Lambert, and Bella Moore; siblings: Marie P. McFayden and husband Robert, Larry Purvis and wife Betty, Jerry Purvis, David Purvis; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at 3 PM at Glendon Independent Christian Church with Dr. John Williamson and Reverend Lacy Frye officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. 

The family will receive friends at Kennedy Funeral Home on Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 5-7 PM and other times at the home.
