Mrs. Edith Denny Luther, age 88 of Aberdeen and formerly of Carthage died Sunday (January 28, 2007) at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Carthage conducted by the Rev. Tom Herndon. Burial will follow in Cross Hill Cemetery.
A native of Surry County she was a daughter of the late Doctor Martin Denny and Maggie Etta Allen Denny. She worked for many years in the textile industry and later retired from Pride-Trimble in Southern Pines. She was preceded in death by her husband Curtis Luther who owned and operated Luther's Tire in Carthage before turning it over to his son-in-law Franklin "Buddy" Oldham. Also preceding her in death were brothers Woodrow Denny, Allen Denny, Ervin Denny and a sister Maude Griffin.
She is survived by: a daughter Marie L. Oldham and husband Buddy of Carthage; sisters Ellen Whicker of Sanford, Lula Mae Hendricks and husband Robert of Carthage; brother Clarence Denny and wife Joyce of Danville, VA; grandchildren Charla Matthews and husband Dexter, Kim Putnam and husband Carlos; great-grandchildren Justin, Jacob and Emily.
The family will receive friends at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 PM and other times at the residence of Marie and Buddy Oldham.
