Mrs. Pauline Fields Myrick, age 90 of River Landing at Sandy Ridge and formerly of Carthage died at her residence Thursday (January 31, 2008).
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Sunday at Carthage United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Chuck Plowman. Burial will follow in Cross Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
A native of Moore County she was a daughter of the late William M. Fields and Ruby Muse Fields. She was preceded in death by her husband John Howard Myrick and brothers Eugene, Wilber and Curtis Fields.
Mrs. Myrick was a graduate of Carthage High School and received a BA degree and a Masters degree from UNC-Greensboro. She also studied Administration-Supervision Curriculum at UNC Chapel Hill. She was an elementary school teacher, principal at Carthage Elementary School and Director of Intermediate Education and Educational Media. She worked with Moore County Schools at the administrative level as one of the original six-person office team to help consolidate schools and establish Sandhills Community College.
She held many professional memberships including NC Association of Educators, National Association of Elementary School Principals, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, NC Association of School Administrators, American Library Association, Association of School Librarians and Society of School Librarians International. She also had memberships in Delta Kappa Gamma, Phi Chapter and Gamma Sigma.
She was a member of the Carthage United Methodist Church where she had served on the Administrative Board, Finance Committee and United Methodist Women. She also taught Sunday school for many years in both children and adult classes. She enjoyed reading and traveling.
She is survived by: her daughters Dr. Paula M. Short and Husband Dr. Rick Short of Nashville, TN, Mrs. Judy M. Parks and husband John Parks of High Point; grandchildren Jeff, John, Jay, Wendel and Neil; great-grandchildren Brennan, Julia and Holden.
