September 13, 1940 ~ September 14, 2024

Born in: Easley, SC
Resided in: Pinehurst, NC

Myra Putnam Robinson, 84, of Pinehurst, NC, went to her heavenly home on September 14, 2024.

Myra was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Jack A. Robinson, Sr. She is survived by a son, Jack A. Robinson, Jr., and wife Holly; a daughter, Melissa (Missy) Miller and husband Barry; and two grandchildren who were the light of her life, Will Robinson and wife Katie, and Brice Robinson.

Myra was born in 1940 in Easley, SC, to William Edward Putnam and Lucille Putnam. She attended Easley High School where she played basketball and went on to earn a business degree from Mars Hill College. Myra met Jack at Furman University where she worked as secretary to the Dean of Education while he was working on a master’s degree. A long-standing family joke is that Myra actually earned that degree because she typed and edited all of his school papers. They married in December 1961 and moved to Southern Pines in 1970.

Myra had a strong faith in God, and was known her kindness and caring for others, as well as a wonderful sense of humor. She always saw the good in people and would lift others up with encouragement. Myra was a gifted musician who played the piano and organ and sang in the church choir, and the true joy of her life was using her talents for the glory of God. She worked as a church secretary and pianist for over 35 years, at First Baptist Church of Carthage, NC, in the 1970’s, and for the rest of her career at First Baptist Church of Southern Pines.

Myra made close friends in her Ruth Sunday School class, and she was so grateful for their love and friendship. Her church family was a strong support for Myra when she was diagnosed with epithelioid sarcoma at the age of 43, and her leg was amputated to save her life. Myra amazed everyone with her positive attitude and perseverance in the face of hardship. She was a beautiful woman with a beautiful spirit and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of FirstHealth Hospice and Fox Hollow Assisted Living. They give special thanks to Myra’s caregiver and their sister-in-law, Elaine Karshner, for the loving care and comfort she gave Myra.

A celebration of life service will be held at First Baptist Church of Southern Pines on Sunday, September 29, at 1:30 pm. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Southern Pines.

Online Condolences can be made at: PinesFunerals.com.

Powell Funeral Home is honored to serve the Robinson family.
