Nancy Faye Barber Gibbons Sherman, 80, of Carthage, passed away on November 15, 2024, at her home with her loving daughters by her side.
She was born on, November 25, 1943, to the late William and Julie (Short) Barber in Wilmington, North Carolina. Nancy worked at a textile mill for many years. Fondly called “Encyclopedia” by her niece; Nancy was an avid reader. She enjoyed traveling, especially to the beach, and was a clog and square dancer.
Nancy is survived by her two daughters; Beth Gibbons Yost and Mechelle Gibbons Kelly of Carthage; two grandsons, Asa and Alyssa Bailey, III, Andrew and Allison Bailey of Carthage; two granddaughters, Patricia and Kyle Joyner of Carthage and Mica and Sam Dexter of Raeford; sister, Julia “Baby” Matthews of Carthage, eight great-grandchildren, and many much-loved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas “Andy” Gibbons, grandson, Aaron Lyle Bailey, and brothers; Edwin Faulkner and Fenner Faulkner.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, 1:00 pm, at the Summer Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Carthage, North Carolina, with Pastor Joe Carpenter and her nephew, Don Faulkner, officiating.
