Pauline Short Cook, age 92 0f Tara Plantation in Carthage died Tuesday (January 19, 2010) at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday at Summer Hill Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Edwin Moore and Dr. John Williamson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church and following the service in the fellowship hall.
A native of Moore County she was the oldest of six children and last surviving child of the late Thomas E. and Mary J. Barrett Short. She attended Wingate Junior College on a basketball scholarship and graduated with a business degree. After returning from school she worked for the county and worked as a seamstress. She also worked door-to-door selling various products including: oil portraits, womens dresses and Stanley products. In addition to her five siblings she was preceded in death by; her husband E.B. "Gene" Cook who was a Moore County commissioner at the time of his death.
She is survived by: daughters Paula Hall and husband Jody of Carthage, Loretta Cook of Greensboro; grandchildren Kelly Comer, Jeremy Hall and wife Polly, Kate Musselwhite and husband Richard, Grant Turlington and wife Elizabeth; great-grandchildren Austin, Hannah, Justin, Julianne, Jenna, Thomas and River.
