Peggy Whitaker Phillips, age 79, of Cameron passed away at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital on Thursday, January 4, 2024.
She was the daughter of the late James Whitaker and Dorothy Whitaker. She was a retired Teacher Assistant in the Moore County school system for more than 30 years.
Peggy was a loving wife and mother; she enjoyed helping people, going to church, and mostly spending time with her husband and her family.
In addition to her parents, Peggy is preceded in death by her brother, Don Whitaker and sister, Norma Lee Whitaker.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Bruce, and their three children: Cheryl (Jonathan) Hastings, Dean (Debbie) Phillips, Lee (Felicia) Phillips; her sister’s: Brenda Needham (Eddie) and Lynn Sisk (Randy), seven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at 3 p.m. at Cameron Presbyterian Church in Cameron, NC. Burial will follow at Cameron Cemetery. Family will receive visitors at Bruce and Peggy’s home.

So sorry to hear of your loss of Peggy. She was one of my sister Dixie’s best friends throughout their years in Carthage schools and graduated with her from Carthage High School. For some reason, they endearingIy called her “Peg Leg.” I tagged along with them quite a bit in their shenanigans and loved every minute of it.
