Philip Ivan Tarr, 82, died January 22, 2017 at Womack Army Medical Hospital at Fort Bragg NC.

 

A service will be held in the spring in Quinby VA.

 

He retired from the US Army after 30 years of service, then worked several years more civil service at the Fort Bragg Commissary. After retirement, he enjoyed his favorite pastime, buying and selling second-hand items, particularly military goods.

 

He was born July 10, 1934 in Quinby VA to Cedar and William Tarr. He is survived by his wife, Trudy, daughters Sylvia Downing (Henry) of Aberdeen NC and Patricia Tarr of Fayetteville NC, son Matthew Tarr (Holly) of Newark DE, two grandsons, Adam Downing of Raleigh NC and Joseph Downing (Jennifer) of Raeford NC, two great-grandsons, Nathan and Daniel Downing, sister Dorris Kilmon of Exmore VA and several nieces and nephews.

 

Memorials can be made to St. Judes Research, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN, 38106.

 

Powell Funeral Home and Crematory in Southern Pines NC is assisting the family.

  3. Just heard tonight about Uncle Ivan. I remember when he used to visit with my mom (his cousin), Irene Webb Savage. And I especially remember his laugh! Such stories he’d tell!!! Full of life. Sorry for your family’s loss.

  4. I’m sorry for your loss, Mr Tarr was a great man and good friend to my late husband and I . He treated Doug Alexander like he was his son. ( which has also passed) , Phillip has crossed our minds many times, and yes he loved the pass time work he did as did we right along with him. He’ is missed by many I’m sure.
