Resided in: McLeansville , North Carolina

Rex Gary Marsh, Unforgettable husband, father, and grandfather passed away on January 30, 2025, at the age of 72.  He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, determination, and love.

Born on September 12, 1952, in Moore County, he was son to the late Claude E. Marsh, Jr. and Sybil Cooper Marsh.  Because he spent much time outdoors as a child, his love of all things in nature developed at a young age.  Rex spent summers working in the tobacco fields, hunting, and fishing.  He was a farmer at heart.  As a young man, Rex received his degree in chemical engineering from NC State University.  He maintained his fondness for the Wolfpack his entire life.  Rex spent his career working as a chemical engineer helping to build and construct several plants throughout the southeast.  When he was able to step away from the job site, Rex found solace in woodworking.  Over the years he built a beautiful log cabin in the mountains of Alleghany County.  He also made beautiful furniture and a one-of-a-kind gun cabinet.  His children were in awe of his hand-built jungle gym and swing set.  Rex also had a green thumb, he planted gorgeous rose bushes, pear and apple trees, and mimosa trees.  He was a great provider for his family and a supportive and sometimes coach of his children’s pursuits, whether academic or athletic.   Rex’s greatest legacy will be his amazing family, who loved him with all their heart.

Rex is survived by his childhood sweetheart and beloved wife of 53 years, Sandra Hurley Marsh, of McLeansville, North Carolina; daughter, Mollie Watkins, of Stokesdale, North Carolina; son, Tyrus Marsh, of Burlington, North Carolina; brother, Bernard Marsh and his wife, Harriet, of Carthage; two grandchildren, William and Luke Watkins; and a niece, Lola Black, and her husband, Derek, of Carthage.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on February 4, 2025, at Red Branch Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Mitchell officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.  Burial of Rex will follow the service at Cameron Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Memorial Giving, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas, 66675-8516.

The care of Mr. Marsh has been entrusted to Fry and Prickett Funeral Home.
