Richard 'Tony' A. Byrd
October 5, 1942 ~ July 13, 2015
Richard "Tony" Byrd, age 72 of Carthage died Monday (July 13, 2015) at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Carthage conducted by the Rev. Rick Martindale and Gregg Newton. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
A native of Moore County he was a son of the late Otha McKinley and Lucille Sheppard Byrd. He was a farmer for many years and also worked for American Tobacco Company and Sanford Contractors.
Earlier in life he was active in the Carthage Jaycees and a volunteer on the Carthage Fire Department and Rescue Squad.
He was preceded in death by: his sister and brother in law Nancy and John Gawarecki.
He is survived by: his wife of 53 years Alice Scott Byrd; sisters Ezelle Garrison and husband Fred of West End, Marie Morris of Raeford, Irene Scott of Kent, WA, Sue Whitley of West End; brother David Byrd, Sr. and companion Joan Gebbia of Wilmington; 21 nieces and nephews.
