August 3, 1935 ~ October 6, 2024

Born in: New York City, NY
Resided in: Pinehurst, NC

Robert Gerald Tatom, 89, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2024, with his beloved wife, Joyce, by his side.  They were married for 69 years and had two daughters, Julie & Susan. Bob never met a stranger and was a friend to all.

Bob attended the University of Florida and earned an MBA from Columbia University, NYC.  His career in sales led him across many parts of the country. He was an entrepreneur and real estate developer.  He retired to Pinehurst in the late ‘90s and enjoyed golf on a weekly basis.

He loved to travel, golf, basketball, and all things Gators.  He was happiest when he was entertaining and was an accomplished cook.  He was the consummate host. Bob will be sorely missed. All he touched will never forget him – he will live on in our memories.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at later date.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. My dad was a wonderful father, a loving husband and a loyal friend.
There are so many meaningful memories
Of our time together, I feel extremely fortunate to be his child. I know his particular sense of humor and insight will live on in me and give me comfort and a smile for the rest of my days.

  2. My Dad was special to me. He was a character and a friend to so many people. He loved my mother deeply. I will recall fond memories of him for the rest of my life. XO 😘

  3. Words cannot express the loss of our friend and neighbor Bob. We’re grateful for the many evenings of cocktails, laughter, wit and sarcasm. You’ll live on in the hearts of all of us who love you.

  4. Extremely sad to hear of Bob’s passing. Bob hired me out of college, with no sales experience, to work with him at Wallace Business Forms. He was a great “Boss” but an even better friend. He taught me many things about Sales and people skills that I used throughout my career. Bob was blessed with a great family, especially his wife Joyce. Together they made a truly wonderful team. I will miss Bob and his stories about his career. Rest in peace my friend

  5. One of my all time favorite people!
I can barely remember a time you weren’t making me laugh! There are so many wonderful memories, throughout my entire life! The laughter… omg, and the bear hugs!! You gave the best hugs ever! I’ll miss the hugs and all the laughter, Mr. Tatom. I am so very grateful to have you and the entire Tatom clan in my life! And don’t tell Mrs. Tatom but that seafood frittata! The very best!!!… and yes, you smell good! LOL
    GODSPEED, MR. TATOM, GODSPEED!
    Until we meet again..
    All my love,
    Suzanne
    XOXOXO

  6. Christine and I have so many memorable event involving Bobby and Joyce. It is difficult to choose. But let me cite one when Joyce and Bob visited us here in Upstate New York on their grand tour from Pinehurst – still in their vintage Mercedes, as I recall – to visit friends one summer in the Northeast.

I have arbitrarily picked July 1999 as the date. Dates have faded, but the memory of Bobby marching into the house and taking over the preparation of dinner with his Beer Butt Chicken from the south remains fresh, and tasty. We actually had to go out to buy the cans of beer!

Bobby, though we still hardly know all there was to know of you, we love you!

    What a presence!

  7. I was so sorry to learn of Bob’s passing. I have many wonderful memories, most recently of Bobby and Joyce visiting Paul and me in Miami. And now I think of Bob and Paul and Jim Fenner up there toastiing each other and having a grand old time reflecting on all the good times we had together over the years. Love and hugs to Joyce and Julie and Susan from Lois Neidhart.

  8. Tatom thanks for always dancing with me even though I can’t dance at all
Thanks for a lifelong friendship and for always always everywhere you lived you and Joyce always found room for me. Loved you Sotela

  9. Dear and wonderful Bob, how we will always miss you and your endless and never repeated and always delightful stories. I am glad that I had the opportunity to tell Bob, during one of our cherished visits from Durham, NC, that he was the best storyteller that I have ever known, and on top of that, he never repeated a story, even once. Perhaps now, he might have the time to write the book I was always begging him to write, although even with all the infinite time in the heavenly world, it would be too long to finish. Although Sharon and I had not been in contact with Bob and Joyce for a great many years, once we found each other again, Sharon and I could hardly wait to visit Bob and Joyce and each time always felt so welcome and missed. We love you dear Bob and Joyce and look forward to many more visits with dear Joyce in the near future.

  10. Bob, neither I nor my brothers would even be, had it not been for you and Joyce. Many fond memories, especially of Thanksgivings shared between the Tatom and Smith families, will remain with me my entire life. You will be sorely missed.

  11. Bob the salesman was a persistent pain at times but that was how I got to know and love the person he will always be in my memories. A big teddy bear, kind and giving and a true friend! Made a great dirty martini too! Bobby “Hands Low Finish High” Our best wishes to Joyce, Julie and Susan…he loved you all soooo much and I’m sure he will watch over you Always!!
