Robert Emmett Sylverstein of Southern Pines, NC formerly of Madison, NJ passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family at his home on May 4 th .

 

He was 84 years old.  He is survived by Carol his loving wife of 53 years, his son Robert and fiancée Christine, his sister Ann Huyler and many nieces and nephews. He was an amazing son, husband, father, brother, uncle and friend to all.

 

Robert was born in Tylertown, Mississippi in 1932 to Robert Emmett and Jane Odom Sylverstein.  Bob later moved to Alexandria, VA where he completed his high school education.  He attended and graduated from Mississippi State University and was an ongoing supporter of his school and fraternity, Phi Tau. Bob also served in the U.S Army during the Korean War.

 

Bob was a member of Rotary International his entire adult life and received the Paul Harris Fellow award.  He was an active member of the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company for over 40 years, where he served as an active District Agent for the many of those years.  Bob also received the Outstanding Young Men of America award for service.

 

Bob loved to sing in church choirs wherever he was and also found pleasure in in family time, reading, playing golf, and singing with the Barbershop Chorus here in Moore County.

 

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, May 13 th at 2 pm. at Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church, 330 S. May Street in Southern Pines.  Pastor John Hage will officiate the ceremony.  The family will greet friends in Fellowship Hall following the service at a reception provided my Martha’s Friends.  The family would like to thanks First Health Hospice, Sue Alexander and Mary McBeth for all of their love, care and support to Bob and his family.
