Roy Carson Phillips, age 63 of Carthage died Thursday at Hospice Haven in Richmond County.

 

Funeral services will be 4:00 PM Sunday at First Baptist Church in Robbins conducted by the Rev. Kenneth McNeill and the Rev. Ernest Farrell. Burial will follow in Flint Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

 

A native of Moore County he was a son of the late Eli Carson Phillips and Bertie Phillips Baird. He was a graduate of North Moore High School where he played varsity baseball and football, winning several baseball championships. A loyal alumnus he was recognized for his dedication to the North Moore football team where he pulled chains for over 30 years. He also  was a loyal member,  former deacon and Layman of the Year at First Baptist Church of Robbins. He also volunteered for many Habitat for Humanity projects through his church ministries.

 

He was a former co-owner of R & R Phillips Enterprises Furniture Manufacturing, and Sandhills Nautilus Family Fitness of Robbins. He also worked for several years at Wrights Furniture in Staley, NC.

 

He is survived by: his wife of 43 years Pam Wallace Phillips; daughters Amy Phillips and husband Jason of High Falls, Carli Phillips Steed and husband Justin of Pinehurst; sisters Rogerlin Wright of Coleridge, Cynthia Brewer of High Falls, Brenda Spinks of Robbins; brothers Larry Phillips of Robbins and Hoyt Phillips of Greensboro; one grandson Vince Larsen; one step grandson Caleb Phillips.

 

The family will receive friends at Kennedy Funeral Home from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Saturday and other times at the home.

 

Memorials may be made to: Richmond County Hospice, 1119 N. US Highway 1, Rockingham, NC 28379, or to the Alzheimers Association, ALZ.org.
