Roy Collins, age 73 of Carthage died Friday (April 25, 2014) at his home.

 

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Monday at Immanuel Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Eugene Ussery. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Jeff and Sarah Collins on Sunday from 5:00 - 8:00 and following the service in the fellowship hall.

 

A native of Moore County he was a son of the late William Thomas and Annie Jane Patterson Collins. He was a graduate of Sandhills Farmlife school and retired from the NC Department of Corrections where he worked as a Officer at Cameron Morrison Correctional Institute and was directly involved with the Impact program. Prior to his work as a Corrections Officer he worked several years in golf maintenance at the County Club of Whispering Pines.

 

He was preceded in death by: sisters Marguree Garner Bullitt, Betty Richardson and Mary Bullard; brothers Prentice Patterson, and Buck Collins; a grandson Kenny Henson.

 

He is survived by: his wife Mary Cox Collins; daughter Kim Dunlap and husband Jackie of Robbins; sons Jeffrey Collins and wife Sarah of Carthage, Mark Collins and wife Cheli of Morganton, GA; stepchildren Janet Caddell and husband Bryan of West End, Beth Thomas and husband Mike of Pinebluff; brothers Albert Collins and wife Ethel of Carthage, Waylon Collins and wife Johnsie of West End; sister in law Mae Patterson of Carthage; brother in law Lester Bullard of Sanford; grandchildren Abbey, Todd, Nick, Josh, Mason, Collin, Morgan and Larry; step grandchildren Justin, Brandon, Emma, Thomas, Lindsay, LeAnna Grace and Addie Kate; great-granddaughter Savannah, and his dog Russell. 

Memorials may be made to: the Kenny Henson Memorial Scholarship Fund, (Established to support students from Kenny's college class of 2017 who would otherwise not be able to go to college) 773 Meadowview Drive, Morganton, GA 30560; or to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 632 McCrimmon Road, Carthage, NC 28327.
