Sadie Duncan Bothwell, 92, of Southern Pines, NC passed away December. 2, 2016, at St. Joseph of the Pines Care Center in Southern Pines, NC

 

A funeral service is planned for Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Powell Funeral Home and Crematory in Southern Pines, NC, officiated by the Reverend David Helms. A visitation for family and friends will start at 11:30 AM prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, Asheboro, NC.

 

Born in Lumberton, Robeson County, NC on May 6, 1924 to Hector McNeill Duncan and Emma Nettie Townsend Duncan. Mrs. Bothwell previously lived in Carthage, NC, with her husband, Thomas H. Bothwell. Following high school, Sadie served in the Navy in Norfolk, VA for 2 years. Her main occupation was as a tax examiner for the Internal Revenue Service in Atlanta, GA. She also had her Georgia real estate license. After retiring, she and her husband, Tom, moved to Pompano Beach, FL, and later to Carthage, NC.

Sadie had many interests and talents. She enjoyed traveling in the US and internationally. At one time, she worked as an independent associate for TravelMax, Inc. Sadie was also very talented in the field of art. She was a talented artist in oil and watercolor mediums. She taught art lessons in Pompano Beach, FL, and also in Carthage, NC. She won several awards, one being Central Carolina Hospital’s Artist of the Month, as well as showing her artwork in various art shows in Pinehurst and Southern Pines. She extended her artistic abilities into the field of interior decorating and received her interior decorating license while living in Carthage.

Sadie also enjoyed playing golf and was a former member of the Pinehurst Golf Club, in Pinehurst, NC. She was an experienced bridge player and a member of the American Contract Bridge League. She also loved flowers, and if not enjoying her outside time on the golf course, you would find her working in her yard.

Sadie was a member of First Baptist Church of Southern Pines, and the IG Sunday School Class.

 

She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas H. Bothwell of Carthage, NC, parents, Hector McNeil Duncan and Nettie Townsend Duncan, of Asheboro, NC, and sisters, Marie Duncan of Asheboro, NC, and Margaret Faircloth of High Point, NC.

 

She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Holseberg (Kenneth) and Susan Drinkard (Eddie), her grandchildren, Andrew Culbreath, Wendy Davis, Chris Drinkard, and Chad Drinkard., and nine great-grandchildren.

 

Memorials may be made to the Rolling Retirees, Southern Pines First Baptist Church, 200 East New York Ave, Southern Pines, NC 28387
