Sallie Frances (Cummings) Hicks, age 90, of Vass, N.C. passed away at FirstHealth Hospice in Pinehurst, N.C. on Friday, December 8, 2017.

A funeral service will be held December 11, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel, 160 East New Hampshire Avenue, Southern Pines, N.C.  A visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.  Interment will follow at Highland Baptist Church Cemetery, 5587 US-1, Vass, N.C.

Sallie was born on June 11, 1927 in Hoke County and was the daughter of Sam and Pearlie Cummings.  She married Albert Turner Hicks on June 12, 1945 and settled in Moore County where they raised their 7 children; Charles, Sammy, Shirley, Cathy, Larry, Marshall and Janice.

Sallie was a dedicated and hard worker who last worked as a Caregiver before retiring. 

Sallie, known as “Granny” to many, was a strong, feisty, and much-loved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.   She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

Sallie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sons Charles Hicks and Larry Hicks and daughter-in-law Tammy Hicks.  Brothers, Otha Cummings, Melvin Cummings and Francis Cummings.  Sister Hattie J. Knight.

Sallie is survived by her children - Samuel Hicks (Dorothy), Shirley Singer (Doyle), Catherine Phillips (Cecil), Marshall Hicks (Kim), Janice Hicks-Wickham (Johnny) and her fury baby, Casey, 12 Grandchildren and 14 Great-Grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to FirstHealth Hospice, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst N.C.
