Samuel Fields "Jaybird" Hicks, age 69 of Vass died Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at his home and has now entered into the kingdom of heaven. 

A casual style "Jaybird" graveside service will be 11:00 AM Saturday at Bethesda Cemetery. Please dress casual and bring a lawn chair. 

Born in Hoke County (now Moore County) he was a son of the late Albert Turner and Sallie Cummings Hicks. He worked for 30 years with the NC Forest Service in Moore County as an equipment operator. He was a mastermind of all outdoor hobbies. 

He was preceded in death by his brothers Charles and Larry Hicks.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years Dorothy M. Hicks; sons Samuel V. Hicks of Oak Island, and fiancée Mary Ann Gallaher of Lexington, NC, Dale and Lisa Hicks of Carthage; sisters  Shirley and Doyle Singer of Vass, Cathy and Cecil Phillips of Carthage, Janice Hicks-Wickham and Johnny of Vass, a brother, Marshall and Kim Hicks of Vass;  grandchildren Wayne, Adam and Brandon Hicks, Anthony Bibey, Crystal and Kyle Leen'eer, Tiffany and Dakota Hicks and his pet Holly. 

The family would like to thank all the caring staff of FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital for their superior care.
