Sarah Carolyn Phillips Fields
February 27, 1948 ~ June 12, 2023
Sarah was a daughter, a sister, a mother, a medical specialist and a friend. She accepted each role with determination, commitment and love.
She was her own person and you never had any doubt “where you stood” with her.
She was a trained x-ray technician and a nuclear medicine specialist. Her entire professional career revolved around these specialties in the medical field.
Life for her was seldom dull. As a child she loved the beach trips with cousins, and as an adult looked forward to an occasional West Virginia trip with a special cousin to visit a favorite aunt.
Music and dance were enjoyable pastimes that charged her batteries. Her fascination with NASCAR was a surprise to some of us.
Her heart still belonged at home. She provided care for her father after he had a stroke and was bedridden. Yet her heart belonged to her son, Jody who was the light of her life. His devotion and care for her over the last few years was a reflection of his own love for his mother.
Sarah’s love for creatures great and small could be seen in her love of her dogs and cats. She never turned away an animal in need. Jody, she left you quite a menagerie–Otis, Little Mam, Mama Cat, the Three Amigos, Cotton and all the yard babies. Even the racoon. Her spirit lives in each of them and she knew you would guard their lives with care.
The garden on the deck was a special place for her. She loved to see things grow (like her daddy) and felt real joy in seeing the little tomatoes ripen and other vegetables grow.
Sarah was a child of God and through his grace we know she has received eternal wholeness, rest and peace.
Sarah is survived by her son, Jody Fields of the home, her brother, Jack Phillips of Davidson, NC and her sister, Frances Melott of Raleigh, NC.

She was the very best neighbor I could have ever asked for. She would light up if I carried the Granddaughters to see her or if I just had a left over dessert to share. She will be missed by many. We love you forever Sarah!!
