Sarah Cox Clayton, 70, of Pinehurst, died Tuesday April 13, 2010 at Firsthealth Moore Regional Hospital. A native of Lee County, Sarah was born on April 15, 1939 to Norris and Ella Cox of Sanford. She was a graduate of Appalachian State University, and taught English at Union Pines High School for most of her career. She later worked at Aberdeen Middle School and Farmlife Elementary in the Media Center. She loved reading mysteries, telling ghost stories, traveling, antiques, New England, covered bridges, cats, and especially enjoyed talking about her new grandson who was her pride and joy. But most of all she loved her family, her friends, and her Lord. She was a member of Culdee Presbyterian Church in West End. Sarah is survived by her husband of 45 years, Harold Clayton of Pinehurst; her daughter Amber Clayton of the home, her son Matthew, daughter-in-law Lori, and grandson Griffin of Huntersville, and her brother Roger Cox of Sanford. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 16 from 5-8pm at Powell Funeral Home on New Hampshire Avenue in Southern Pines. The funeral will be held Saturday, April 17th at 2pm at Culdee Presbyterian Church, 916 Hwy 73, West End, NC.
