Sharon Purvis Oakes 58, entered Heaven peacefully on Sunday, June 5, 2016 surrounded by her family, at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC.

Funeral Service will be held at 5:00 PM, Thursday June 9, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church, Robbins, NC,  with the Dr. Bill Cooper, Reverend Brad Harrison and Reverend Robert L. Kidd officiating. Sharon was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She was at her best when she was helping family or friends. She had a gift of being able to share a conversation with people she met in all walks of life.  It brought her great joy just to connect.   Sharon enjoyed shopping trips and any time spent at the beach.  She was a graduate of Appalachian State University and a retired Real Estate Appraiser for New Hanover County. She will be greatly missed, but was reunited with her twin sister, Karen, who preceded her in death. Sharon was a daughter of the late Dewitt and Sylvia Horner Purvis.

Sharon is survived by husband, William “ Billy” Oakes; daughter: Vanessa Williams and husband Mark; son:  Andrew Oakes and wife Megan; grandson: Gunnar;  sister: Geraldine Boyd and husband Billy; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Sharon’s family would like to remind everyone to consider the “Gift of Life” through organ donation.  It changes more than one life.
