Shelby Jean Thompson Diver, age 85, of Carthage passed away Thursday, August 15, 2024 at Peak Resources – Pinelake in Carthage.

A native of Moore County she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Pauline Bryant Thompson. Shelby worked in textiles for several years and also later in life worked as a manager at Hardees. 

After retirement she could be found most mornings at Hardee or McDonalds eating breakfast and drinking coffee with friends.

Sadly, over recent years her health declined and dementia took over her mind causing her to not be able to remember her friends and family and the life she once had.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Diver; son: Paul Sapiro; brother: Stoney Thompson.

She is survived by her son Richard Adcox (Cornellia) of Madison, IN; sisters Pat Carlyle of Virginia Beach, VA; Shirley Caviness of (Caviness Town) Robbins, Becky Clary of Norfolk, VA, Tinker Willliams of (Putnam) Carthage; brother: Charles Thompson; grandchildren Gypsie and Melanie; great-grandchildren Greyson, Paul and John. 

A committal service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 21, at Putnam Friends Church Cemetery followed by a funeral service in the church.

  1. To say we love Shelby is an understatement. Shelby was more than a neighbor to us. She became family. She took care of us as much as we took care of her always showing love and support loving our children unconditionally. I hope our daughter Gwendalyn will greet her in Heaven. With big loving arm screaming come on grandma shelby. I will miss her spunky sassy ways. She was a force a woman that had lived many lifetime all in one we love you, shelby and we will see you someday.

    I had hoped to see you this morning at your mom’s service but unfortunately I’m not going to be able to join you. She was a spunky little lady that the world will miss.
