Born in: Springfield, Ohio
Resided in: Pinehurst, North Carolina

Sheri Ann Darling, 79, passed away peacefully at The Greens in Pinehurst on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, with her son and daughter-in-law by her side.

Sheri was born in Ohio on June 6, 1947, to the late Edgar and Shirley Darling. Throughout her life, Sheri was independent, determined, and always willing to pursue a new adventure.

She proudly served in the Army National Guard before beginning a career with the United States Coast Guard, where she worked as a journalist. Her career took her to many different places, and she moved often as she followed new opportunities, eventually making Sarasota, Florida, her home.

After retiring from her career with the government, Sheri continued to seek out work that brought her joy. She became a flight attendant with Delta Air Lines, allowing her to travel and experience new places. Later, she worked as a security guard at Walt Disney World, a job she particularly enjoyed. She loved being there to welcome families as they entered the parks and being part of the excitement of their Disney experience.

Sheri believed strongly in the importance of education. She proudly earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. She carried a lifelong appreciation for learning and always believed that education could open doors and create better opportunities.

One of Sheri’s greatest accomplishments was being a mother. As a single mother, she worked hard to provide her only son with the best opportunities and environments she could. She devoted herself to raising him and was proud of the man he became.

Sheri also had a lifelong love of tennis. She was an avid player and enjoyed being on the court whenever she could. She had a few simple favorites in life as well—most notably, there was almost always a Diet Coke by her side.

Later in life, Sheri found great joy in being a grandmother. She had a special way of bringing a smile to her grandchildren’s faces, often arriving with a gift or two and making every visit feel special. Her love for her family was one of the greatest parts of her life.

Sheri is survived by her only son, Brian (Brittany) Darling of Cameron; her two grandchildren, Michael and Madeline Darling. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Shirley Darling.

The family will have a private service at Sarasota National Cemetery in Florida at a later date.
