Shirley Joan Carlyle Baxley, age 76 died Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Westfield Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Sanford, NC, surrounded by her daughter and her family.

 

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Red Branch Baptist Church, where she was a member,  with the Reverend Scott McInnis officiating, burial will follow in the church cemetery.

 

Joan was a native of Moore County.  She worked in the banking industry, for the Moore County schools and operated a cleaning business for many years. Joan and her late husband Atlas cleaned the buildings and cared for the grounds of Red Branch Church for over 45 years. She enjoyed beach trips with her family and eating out.  All times spent with her family were very special to her. Joan was a daughter of the late Garland and Lucinda Lineberry Carlyle. and she was preceded in death by her husband, Atlas Roscoe Baxley, Jr.; son: Ronald Baxley; brothers: David and J B Carlyle.

 

Joan is survived by daughter: Robin Boyd and husband Jerry (Waylon); grandchildren: Justin Boyd and wife Meredith, Jason Boyd and wife Amber, Brandon Baxley, Matthew Baxley and wife Heather, Amanda Baxley Williams; 11 great grandchildren; sisters: Joyce Futral, Stella Whitaker, Peggy Patterson;  brother: Gerald Carlyle.

 

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 from 6 to 8 PM at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her daughter.

 

Memorials may be made to: Red Branch Church Cemetery Fund, 1748 Old River Road, Carthage, NC 28327.

 

Fry & Prickett Funeral Home is assisting the Baxley family.
