Sonya Needham Hand, 63, of Seagrove, North Carolina, passed away at her home on July 22,, 2026.
Sonya was born on December 8, 1962 in Pinehurst, NC to Farrell and Kathelene Needham. She graduated from North Moore High School in 1981, and received her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education from Guilford Technical Community College in 1983. Sonya worked with Moore County Schools for 21 years, up until 2026. She loved and found a lot of joy working with children with special needs for the last several years of her career. She enjoyed life and had many interests, such as her love of NASCAR, going to Holden Beach, TV shows like Wicked Tuna and To Catch A Smuggler, and especially loved Grogu from The Mandalorian TV show!
Sonya was preceded in death by father: Farrell Needham, brother: Greg Needham.
Sonya is survived by her mother Kathelene Needham; her siblings Cindy Needham, Henry Needham (Carolyn Needham), Regena Lambert (Dale Lambert): her daughter MacKenzie Snowden (Walter Snowden) and her son Matthew Hand (Lindsay Kappius); many nieces, nephews and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be 3 PM Sunday, July 26, 2026 at Needhams Grove Baptist Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall and at other times at the home of Henry and Carolyn Needham.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to the Glioblastoma Foundation of Durham, NC in her honor.
