Stephen Leslie Piagentini

Stephen “Steve” Piagentini, 73, passed away on August 2, 2026, following a long illness and a courageous battle with a terribly painful disease.

Steve was born on March 28, 1953, to Rino (Ann) Piagentini and Trayle Marie Luis. He graduated from Mynderse Academy in 1972 before entering the United States Navy, where he served aboard a guided-missile destroyer during the Vietnam War.
Following his military service, Steve attended Refrigeration School in Phoenix, Arizona. He began his career at the Ritz-Carlton in Scottsdale, Arizona. After moving back to New York, he worked at the Chiropractic College.

From 1992 to 2005, Steve served as Director of Facilities at Clifton Springs Hospital and Clinic. In 2005, he became Director of Facilities Services for FirstHealth of the Carolinas in Pinehurst, North Carolina. He retired in 2017.

Steve and his wife, Sally, shared more than 50 years of marriage and enjoyed traveling together in their RV before eventually settling in Brooksville, Florida. In March 2025, they moved back to Pinehurst, North Carolina, where Steve began his courageous battle with a terribly painful illness.

Steve is survived by his beloved wife of more than 50 years, Sally; his son, Jeff Piagentini; his sister, Susan (David) Kraft; and grandchildren he loved so much: Alexandria, Iris, Kadi (Kodi), Tyler Piagentini, and Allison Lombardo. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law Fred Smith and Alan (Tricia) Smith; and many extended family members and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents and grandparents; his daughter, Samantha Lombardo; his sister, Sandy Piagentini; his brother-in-law, Tom Smith, and his sister-in-law, Carol Smith.

Steve will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew and loved him. His dedication to his family, his service to his country, his commitment to his work, and, most of all, the love he shared with those around him will remain a lasting part of his memory.
