Sylvia Putnam Allen, age 77, of Carthage & formerly of Oak Island died on Thursday at Pinelake Health & Rehab.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday (3/6/2011) at 3:00 PM at Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Eugene Ussery officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Cecil Edgar Putnam and Myrtle Loy Putnam. She lived in Oak Island for 35 years before moving to Moore County in the early 90's. She worked as a waitress for many years in Oak Island and most recently for Sallys Beauty Supply in Southern Pines. Sylvia loved her church family and her friends at Jackson Terrace. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Allen; sisters, Doris Johnson & Lucille Lafferty; brothers, Ed Putnam, Weldon Putnam and Steve Putnam.
She is survived by her daughters; Cynthia Coble & friend, J. D. of Burlington; Terrie Ragan & husband, Ronnie of Chapel Hill; Jackie Terry & husband, Donald of Oak Island and Tara Davis of South Carolina; a son, Todd Combs & wife, Trish of Linville, NC; a brother, Elmer Putnam of Burlington; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 632 McCrimmon Road, Carthage, NC 28327.
