On February 12, 2020 Tamara Renee Mackey passed on to be with The Lord after a long battle with colon cancer.  She died in the loving company of family and her closest friends at FirstHealth Hospice House at 6:04 p.m. For over two years she overcame every pain and challenge in her lengthy battle and personified the most courageous warrior imaginable.  Tamara epitomized what a compassionate and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend should be. Of Tamara’s many positive influences on the people that she touched she wished to encourage all to embrace early detection of all cancers and ailments in hopes that another one of God’s precious children could avoid unnecessary pain and suffering.

On Saturday, February 29, the family will receive friends at The Tuckerman House in nearby Ellerbe/Derby from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  This property is owned by a dear friend and was special to her for many years as a place for relaxing with friends and family. A private celebration of Tamara’s life will be held earlier this same day in Southern Pines.  The family asks that anyone coming to the gathering in Ellerbe to bring a photo of Tamara if you have one to share with the family. Directions to the home can be found on the web at https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/22569945, or by entering 204 Hope Lane, Ellerbe NC 28338 into your navigation system.

A native of Moore County she was a daughter of Linda Ann Hunt Norris and the late Thomas Albert Norris. Tamara was a graduate of North Moore High School and Sandhills Community College. She worked all of her life as a legal assistant with several attorneys in Moore County, and most recently with Trevarrow Law Firm in Southern Pines.

She is survived by her husband Thomas “Buddy” Mackey; son Austin Mackey of the home; sister Kim Gibson and husband Sonny of Troy; brother Cliff Norris of Aberdeen; her fur baby Gracie; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and other extended family.
