On September 20, 1927, Texie Elder Garner was born to the late Williams and Alice Brown Garner, of Robbins.  On Friday, March 19, 2021, at FirstHealth Hospice House, at the age of 93, God welcomed his true and faithful servant into His heavenly home.

Texie grew up in Northern Moore County, in the Westmoore Community.  She was the 7th of 10 children. She loved her family dearly. She worked in textiles, then settled in Carthage, where she worked as a poultry farmer for more than 50 years.  She always had a garden and loved sharing the bounty, especially her green beans.  She was a hard worker.  When there was a job, she got it done without question. In later years, Texie was affectionately known as Nannie, as she continued to share and teach many generations.

Texie was a quiet and Godly woman.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Worthy Garner, they were married 64 years before his death in 2009. She also was preceded in death by sisters: Grace Cockman, Edna May, Flora Cagle, Donna Rose Ritter; brothers: Hardy Garner, Coolidge Garner, Russell Garner, Herbert Garner.

Texie is survived by daughter: Wanda Lou Steele (Preston); grandsons: Adam (Ashley), Stainles (Sophie); great grandchildren: Briana, Kelsey, Adena, Hunter, Lilly Ann, Walker, Aliyana (better know as Tater); sister; Ethelene Davis; along with a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Moore Regional Hospital, Pinelake Rehabilitation and especially FirstHealth Hospice House, for their caring heart and touch..

  1. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Texie’s family. I have known Texie since I was a child. She went to Flint Hill Baptist Church and Flint Hill is the first Church I went to from my childhood days until my early teen years. Texie was always friendly to everyone and she remained faithful in her service to the Lord throughout the years. I am glad for Texie that she has gone to be with her Lord. I am so sorry for Wanda and the rest of her family and friends because she will be missed by them. May each one look to the Lord for comfort, help and strength during this time of grief. Read John chapter 14, for comfort during this time.

  20. Dear Wanda and family, Miss Texie was such a sweetheart! She had such a sweet Christian spirit about her. You have all been in our thoughts and prayers. We know that you will grieve, but thank God you don’t have to grieve as those who have no hope. We know we will see her again when we are all reunited in heaven. May our dear Lord and Savior Jesus Christ grant you His peace and comfort. Love, Bill & Jayrene Maness

  21. My prayers go out for Wanda and family. Losing a Mother is hard no matter how old you are. I lost mine on 6/22/2020 and it seems like it took this long just to grieve…. dementia made her different than the Mother that I had known my whole life. Texie was such a sweetheart! I have fond memories of the whole Garner family and I knew her the best! ( Other than Hardy). I hope to join our loved ones someday in a better place than this world we are living in now. Love you Wanda. Dougie
